safaris through Northern Kenya and the Great Rift Valley.

tailored for people from all walks of life from placid potterers to

7 DAYS - CAMEL SAFARI
MARALAL (Samburu)
Day 1: Nairobi - Maralal
After breakfast, depart from our Nairobi offices traveling via Nyahururu.
Rumuruti to our Maralal Camel club for overnight in self contained bandas
cottages.
Day 2: Camel Trekking - Walking
After breakfast, start trek with your Samburu Moran (warrior) who will guide
you. After enjoying a picnic lunch, continue with your ride/trek. You arrive
in the afternoon arrive at your pre-prepared campsite. Your safari cook will
be ready with afternoon tea and snacks.
Dinner and overnight at Campsite
Day 3, 4 & 5: Camel Trekking - Walking
Mattresses pad, the locally wooden frames on the camels, and after breakfast
you are set and through the bush either hiking or walking as you choose. It
is a leisurely pace and you may change from walking to hiking, as you
prefer. You will pass by Samburu Manyattas that your lead Moran can organize
for you to visit. As this is spontaneous, the Morans will discuss with the
elders for permission for your entry and you will be asked to pay something
towards the family for photography and viewing their homes.
This is not always included in the safari cost and is only a small amount
offered as a courtesy. Each day you will have a picnic lunch in the bush,
then combine to your next campsite, where your cook will be waiting for you.
Greater part of your evening shall be spent beside water and a shower will
be erected for you to dust off (depending on water availability).
Day 6: End of Camel Trek
The camel trek ends late morning back at the Clubhouse. Here you will take
lunch before walking with your Moran guides into the frontier town of
Maralal. The art crafts to see, the Samburu market and a way of life
different from other places you might have visited on your holiday. In the
evening, the Morans and their ladies will perform dances for you as
entertainment at the Club where you will be free to take as many pictures as
you want even to join in the dancing if you feel up to it.
This night you are in the bandas again and can clean up before your free
return transfer in the morning.
Day 7: Maralal- Nairobi
After breakfast, depart southbound via Laikipia plains and Nyahururu (Thompsons
Falls) transfer back to Nairobi. You are expected to arrive in Nairobi
usually in the late afternoon.
COSTS US$ 970 PER PERSON SHARING
Included:
- Camel safari, saddles and handler guides.
- Two persons tent - sewn in groundsheets and mosquito netting.
- All camping equipment (except sleeping bags which you may hire for US$
30 for whole safari).
- All camp meals prepared by a safari cook.
- Shower tent.
- Samburu Dancing.
- Accommodation in the Bandas on day 1 and 7.
- Free transfer ex Nairobi to Maralal and back for minimum 2 persons
Excludes:
- Extras, personal expenses; e.g. mineral water, laundry, telephones,
beverages, tips, portage
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING ON SAFARI:
- Sleeping bag (available for hire for US$ 15 per bag per safari plus
a refundable deposit of US$ 40 after the safari)
- Money for personal spending and tipping
Only a small case or rucksack, as storage space is limited
- A pair of long trousers and jersey for the cool mornings and evenings, in
addition to plenty of light clothes for hot days (do not forget a hat), a
pillow, good walking shoes
- Torch, sunglasses, suntan lotion, insect repellent/spray but not mosquito
coils
- Mineral water for drinking (available for sale in Nairobi and other towns)
- Camera, films, binoculars, maps and guide-books
NOTE
- This is not a luxury safari, nor is it rough and uncomfortable. Guides are
local Samburu.
- You walk or ride as you choose. Support vehicle carries luggage and camp
supplies, and any personal needs, such as drinks (you purchase in advance if
you need from the Clubhouse on day of departure)
- Tents and showers are erected for you. The cook will make sure you are
well fed.
- Afternoons are free for walks with Samburu Morans. You never know what you
bump into next!
