Preserved rainforests are the ultimate areas for bird watching. Kakamega
forest with 320 species and Arabuko Sokoke with 200 species, aberdares, mt.
Kenya and mt. Elgon forests are worth noting. Contact us for an exclusive
bird watching programme.
Birds in Kenya. With the fact Kenya has got open grasslands, and even still,
most of its part is covered with bush, many resident as well as migratory
birds flock it throughout the year, for shelter and this makes it easy for
tourists to watch them.
One of the unforgettable sight that you can spot on tours to Kenya, are the
spectacular flocks of pink flamingos that cover the lakes of Kenya.
Generally, on their tour, tourists can see a lot of birds-probably between
300-600 species of birds can be spotted.
While Lake Nakuru and Lake Bogaria in Kenya shelter the largest populations
of flamingo in the world, there are other soda lakes still, where many
species of water birds reside as they continue sifting through their salty
water in quest for fish. Some of these lakes include; Lake Nakuru, Lake
Naivasha and Lake Elementaita, which are mostly enjoyed by pelicans,
flamingos, fishing eagles, herons, kingfishers, grebes and others. There is
also bird life in the smaller lakes of Kenya, for example in lake Baringo
and Lake Bogoria.
It is important to note that there is a variety of bird life in Kenya, they
range from the very tiny weaverbirds, to the giant Ostrich. Some of the
large birds that one can see on tours to Kenya include the following; -
pelicans, herons, egrets, stocks, darter, spoonbills, ibis, hawks, kestrels,
eagles, vultures, kites, harriers and buzzards.
Some of the tinny birds in
Kenya that may be spotted on the tours include; sparrows,
weaverbirds, finches, pipits, sunbirds, babblers, flycatchers, shrikes,
orioles and robins. These mainly live in the open grasslands. However, there
are other birds that one can se in Kenya, of which include; plovers, owls,
lapwings, doves, cuckoos, hornbills, ducks, barbets, woodpeckers, quail, and
guinea fowl.
The Ostriches can be spotted walking proudly across the savannah or even in
Ostrich farms where they are kept for meat and feathers.

Kenya
Bird watching Safaris
Kenya
is one of the world’s most superb birding destinations and a must-visit for
amateur and veteran birders. The seamless overlapping habitats provide many
bird species within short distances. Birding here is more exciting because
most of it is done in areas where the big game still roams free. You’ll find
Cattle Egrets picking insects next to a Buffalo while Hyenas and Vultures
fight it out on a carcass. The ever-changing scenery gives perfect
photography opportunities
