3 Days Amboseli
National Park, Tsavo West National Park, Nairobi
Day 1: Amboseli National Park
We depart Nairobi in the morning and drive south through Maasai country
to the plains below Mt. Kilimanjaro where Amboseli is situated. After a
stopover lunch at the lodge we proceed into the scenic Amboseli National
Park for a game drive returning to Amboseli Serena the lodge in the
evening for a sun downer.
Despite its small size (392 sq km), this fragile ecosystem supports a
wide range of mammals (well over 50 of the larger species) and birds
(over 400 species). The waters from Mt. Kilimanjaro drain down the
mountain under lava flows and surface in Amboseli, creating a green belt
of swampland amidst dusty plains. Amboseli lacks the profusion of animal
species found in the Mara, but the landscape provides limited cover so
we have better chances of seeing some of the larger predators. Elephant,
buffaloes, lions, gazelles, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyenas, jackals,
warthogs, Masai Giraffes, zebra, baboon, and waterbuck are all present
in the park.
Day 2: Tsavo West National Park
We drive early to Tsavo West National Park and a stop-over is made at
Mzima Springs, the source of most of Mombasa’s fresh water; you can walk
down to an underwater observation chamber where it is literally possible
to watch hippo or crocodile swim along the floor of this crystal clear
spring. Tsavo is particularly famous for its large herds of elephants.
Back at the lodge we enjoy a sun downer, dinner and a good night’s
sleep.
Day 3: Tsavo/Nairobi
An early morning game drive permits further exploration of this great
park followed by breakfast. We then depart for Nairobi arriving in the
afternoon

Amboseli Safari
Amboseli National Park is a very popular Kenya safari reserve because of
the stunning view it displays of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s
tallest freestanding mountain. When you go on your Amboseli Safari, be
sure to get the famous photograph of elephants with the unforgettable
views of Kilimanjaro in the background!
Streams from Kilimanjaro surface in the centre of Amboseli, creating
swamps that attract and support a rich diversity of wild animals and
birdlife.
As Amboseli is easily accessible, it forms a popular part of many of our
safari itineraries. Amboseli is one of the smaller game parks in Kenya
and the vegetation ensures that the animals are easy to spot. Lions can
easily be found and can occasionally be watched stalking their prey.
Buffalo, zebra, giraffe, gazelle and other plains game are plentiful in
the park and hippos live in the open waters and swamp channels. The
elephants found here are surprisingly relaxed around safari vehicles;
they were largely unaffected by ivory poaching and have some of the
largest tusks.
Tsavo West National
Park
The Land of Lava, Man-eaters, Springs and much more...
Tsavo West National Park covers 7065 km2, approximately 30% of Kenya's
area under parks, and contains a diversity of habitats, wildlife and a
mountainous scenic landscape.
The park is a vast expanse of savanna stretching from Mtito Andei, along
the Mombasa-Nairobi road and south to the Tanzanian border. The North
Eastern boundary along the Highway adjoins Tsavo East National Park, but
Tsavo West has a more varied topography and a more diverse array of
habitats than its neighbour.
The park's habitats include open plains alternating with Savannah bush
and semi desert scrub, acacia woodlands; rocky ridges and outcrops and
more extensive ranges and isolated hills; belts of riverine vegetation;
palm thickets and on the Chyulu hills, mountain forest.
There are numerous rocky outcrops and ridges and part of the park,
towards the Chyulu Hills, is of recent volcanic origin with lava flows
and ash cones including the Shetani lava flow, an example of a recent
volacano.
In the far south western corner on the Kenya Tanzania border is Lake
Jipe, part of which is in the park. This very attractive lake is fed by
runoff from Mt. Kilimanjaro and the North Pare mountains.
At Mzima Springs, in the North of the park, water that has filtered
underground from the Chyulu Hills gushes from below a lava ridge into a
series of clear pools.
Location:
South Eastern Kenya, inland from Mombasa, and the altitude ranges
between 200 - 1000m.
Climate:
Temperature ranges from 20 - 30o C and rainfall from 200mm - 700mm. Two
ran seasons: Long rains - March/April & Short rains - Nov/December.
HOW TO GET THERE

Andei Gate from Nairobi (240 km) and Mombasa. Visitors from Mombasa also
